SEXUAL CHARGE. By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. CHRISTCHURCH, October 1. At the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court, before Mr E. C. Levvy, S.M., Alfred Toy appeared on a charge of ■carnal knowledge at Greymouth of a girl under sixteen years of age. On the application of Chief-Detective J. Carroll, Toy was remanded until October 8. AUCKLAND TRANSPORT BOARD. AUCKLAND, October 1. At a lively meeting df the Auckland Transport Board, Mr E. H. Potter said that it was losing £22,000 for the year, and as to the number of passengers carried, he asserted that the report to be submitted to the local bodies was incorrect by ten millions. BLOOD STAINED AXE. FOXTOX. October 1. During an inspection of farm implements at .the Westlake homestead, prior to an auction sale, a prospective buyer discovered what appealed to be a blood-stained axe at a short distance from a wliare. The police are investigating to ascertain if .the stains arc these of human blood. DEATH FROM SHOCK. , HAMILTON, October 1. Knocked off a bicycle by a 'motor lorry at MorrinsviTle, Sidney Pryor, aged 1G years, son of C. A... Pryor, died from shock. He met a lorry, driven by C. H. ; Lewis, a carrier, at a street corner, and was carried some distance on the bonnet. - ' • . GORED BY STAG. FOUR COWS KILLED. ROTORUA, October 1. A. M. Campbell, a farmer occupying land adjacent to Rotorua, on going over his farm this morning, found four cows dead near a water trough, having been gored* by a stag, all within a fortnight of calving. The carcases all showed severe horn marks and bruises. The farm is near Okareka Reserve, which is much infested by deer. EMPLOYMENT OF MAORI GIRLS. TN CHINESE MARKET GARDENS. OTAKI, October 2. A young married woman, whose name was suppressed, was charged before, Mr A. M.,MowlemS.Mtoday with the theft of frocks, bed linen ,towels and underclothing from a house in Dannevirke. Shortly before her marriage accused obtained possession of the keys of the house duiing the owners’ absence and visited the place, taking various articles. She admitted the theft,'and the police recovered the stolen of the latter had evidently been altered and the owner declined to take them back. . •• . The Magistrate accepted the husband’s proposal to pay £l2 in restitution for the goods altered. Accused was admitted to probation for two years. SALARY CUTS.. WELLINGTON, September 30. When a report concerning a rumour that a conference of representatives of the three parties was to meet tomorrow and consider the restoration of salary cuts in the pest and telegraph ‘and railway services ,'was brought under Sir Joseph Ward’s-not-ice, he said that he had not arranged any such conference, nor did he know of any such meeting. The matter of-, the restoration of the cuts was one for Cabinet’s consideration, and would be fullv considered. , T “Previously I stated,” said Sir Joseph, “that I hoped a decision on this matter would be reached within a month, and that the House would be given an opportunity to discuss the question. There the matter rests at the moment.” OILFIELD REPORT. GISBORNE, October 2. The Taranaki Oil Co. report that Gisborne No. 2 well excavation was completed but progress was hindered by bad weather now improving. Kotnku No. 1 test bole was drilled to 50 feet, flie last 25 feet in sandy shale.
