FORGED CERTIFICATE

1 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN COMPANY. • PERTH, September 20. A certificate for 100 shares in the Freney Kimberley Oil Company, which was received by Mr D. J. Carmichael, sharebroker, from his Adelaide agent to-day, was declared to be a foigeiy when presented to the company’s secretary (Mr W. A. Carcary) for transfer. Mr Carcary said that the certificate was made out in the name of Henry Reeves, of Broome, Western Australia, whose name did not appear on the register, and was presented for transfer to Dr A. Clark. The value of the shares at the time of the forgery was about £1 Bs. It bore the number 6482, which was on a genuine certificate held by another person, and the consecutive numbers were wrong. The certificate was on a printed form, but the words “ Frenlev Kimberley Oil Coy., Ltd.,” at the top were in type different from that on the genuine document, and a double cut seal had been used instead of the single cut employed by the company. The names of the directors, Messrs J. W. Durack and W. Henderson, and the secretary, W. A. Carcary, seemed to have been traced, and the name of P. Rott appeared as witness. This was the first occasion on which a forged certificate had been discovered by the company. . Mr Carcary added that he bad advised the Stock Exchange of Perth and Adelaide.
