TILBURY DOCKS

NEW ENTRANCE LOCK. (British Official Wireless.) , RUGBY',;• September . 26. The new entrance lock at Tilbury Docks on the Thames, 26 miles below London Bridge, which will enable the biggest vessels afloat to enter the docks, will be opened this afternoon in the presence of engineers from many distant parts of the world.

The construction of the new entrance to the docks ( is one otf a series of important improvement works at the London docks undertaken during the last five years. The new entrance dock is 1000 feet long, 110 feet wide, and has a depth of 45£ feet of water at high tide.

Other improvements which are in progress will make Tilbury still more attractive to the biggest shipping. These works include the construction of new dry. docks 750 feet long and 110 feet wide opening out of the main dock, and the transferance of railways, -for goods and passenger traffic, to south of the main dock, it is likely, too, that the new landing stage will be available in the near future, and this will mean a saving of/time to most liners.

Harry Lauder, the famous comedian, is a great smoker. His pipe is his constant companion in all his .travels. A right good companion, tool It heightens enjoyment when things are going well, cheers and solaces when the clouds gather. The man who doesn’t smoke doesn’t know what he is missing. He will tell you that tobacco is injurious—so it is—sometimes.& The imported tobaccos (many of them full of nicotine) cannot be smoked habitually with safety. But the National Tobacco Company’s brands—grown and- manufactured in New Zealand—with hardly any nicotine in them—are not only safe smoking, no matter how freely you indulge, but are the most fragrant and delicious on the market. They owe their fine quality and free dom from nicotine to the toasting of the leaf, in which respect they differ from all other tobaccos. The National Tobacco Company are the pioneers of the N.Z. Tobacco industry in New Zealand. Popular brands: “Riverhead Gold” (a mild aromatic); “Cavendish” (a delightful medium); “Navy Cut’’ (a choice blend), and “Cut Plug No. 10” (Bullsliead, rich, dark and full flavoured.—Advt.
