CHEMIST CHARGED
UNDER PHARMACY ACT. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 25. “ It seems to be in conflict with the spirit of the act, that a drug store, where medical prescriptions are received and are later distributed to patients should be under the control of an un- ' skilled man,” said Magistrate Page, in the course of judgment delivered today. “In many cases, advice or instructions have to be obtained from the chemist as to method of applying or taking medicine or mixture. This cannot be safely given except by a qualified man.” The case was one in which W. S. Wallace was charged under section 40 of the Pharmacy Act, 1908, that being a registered chemist he kept under his name an open shop ifor compounding or dispensing of prescriptions, the said shop not being under his immediate supervision and control, or that of his duly enrolled manager. When the case was heard it was stated that prescriptions were received at Lambton Quay shop but were made up at the Willis Street shop. Defendant was fined £5 Is, security for appeal being found at £lO 10s.
