BRITISH COAL
FIVE CARGOES TAKE FIRE. Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, September 23. 1 The British steamer Antliea is expected to reach the Silton Hall, loaded with coal for Australia, which is on fire in the Indian Ocean, this afternoon. The Silton Hall left Durban on September sth for Adelaide. It is believed that spontaneous combustion is responsible for the fire amongst the coal. Recently fires have occurred on other vessels bringing coal to Australia, namely, on the King Cadwallori, which was destroyed last July off South Africa; also the steamer Rhymney, which returned to Durban with fires in all her holds. Then there was the steamer Knockfierna, which is now at Albany. Then there was the motor ship Tricolour, which went on fire in Sydney Harbour, after her arrival with Scottish coal.
