ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE

CONFERENCE ARRANGEMENTS. Arrangements are now well in hand for the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, which is to be held in Auckland on October 14 and 16 for the,second time since the formation of the association. The conference will be presided over by Mr C. P. Ager, Oi Christchurch, who is vice-president of the association. The association lost through death its president, Mr H. P. Caugliey, within a month of his assuming office. Several important addresses are to be delivered at the conference, the speakers including Mr h. A. Paish, the newly appointed British Trade Commisioner in New Zealand, and Dr E. -yiarsden, permanent head of the department of scientific and industrial research.

Arrangements are being made by t. special committee of the Auckland Chamber for the entertainment of the visiting delegates, 50 or 60 of whom, some of them accompanied by their wjves, are expected to arrive here on the morning of Saturday, October 12. The tentative programme outlined by the local committee provides for a harbour excursion on Saturday, followed by a theatre party the same evening. There will be a motor run on Sunday afternoon and on Monday evening the party will be the guests of the Auckland Chamber at a banquet. The delegates will again be entertained by the local Chamber at its monthly luncheon on Tuesday. Numerous remits have been sent In by various affiliated bodies. Hie wide range of subjects touched on includes taxation, State trading, / misleading prospectuses, judical procedure trade relations with other countries, main highway, and many other . matters. Questions affecting the constitution of the Associated Chambers are expected, to occupy a considerable proportion of the time of the’conference. Mr W. J. Butler will represent the Westland Chamber..
