OIL TANK FIRE
BLAZE DIES DOWN. Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 19. Tire oil tank fire at Hull, which after Ou.rning lor 24 hours, was still blazing furiously yesterday morning, died down later in the day without exploding the other tanks, or firing the inflammable material in the neighbourhood, which has constantly been in danger. As the whole of the sides of the blazing tank fell inwards, it was feared that flio paraffin might escape, and a deep trench was Jug round the tank to minimise the risk of this. Experts are amazed at the manner in which the adjacent tanks withstood the terrific heat.
A warm tribute is paid to the bravery and endurance of the firemen and the employees of the firm. It is estimated that some 1100,000 gallons of paraffin were destroyed.
