Rumours are circulating in Manchuria that Karkhnn is alleged to have declared that unless the Sino-Soviet controversy is.’ : settled within twenty days, the Soviet Russian Government will assume control of the Chinese Eastern .Kailway by means of force. Hostilities on the Manchurian frontier have been rdduced to a minimum. Soviet aeroplanes are daily reconnoitring close to the line. Occasionally the Soviet ■ trenches resound with machine gun fire directed at Chinese lines.
