The death occurred yesterday morning at the Grey River Hospital of James Fitzpatrick, 'licensee of the Albion Hoi el, Wallsend, after a shbrt ilnness. Deceased, who- was aged 49. leaves five sisters—Sister Agnes, Convent ,Singleton, Sydney; Mrs K. Chisholm, Invercargill; Mrs M. Moore, Stillwater; and Misses Margaret and Anne, at home.

The representative 'football match at Greymouth -to-morrow afternoon between West Coast and Nelson repre sentatives should prove a well-contest-ed game. When the Coast team travelled to Nelson earlier in the season in quest of-the Seddon Shield they put up a good game, though defeated, and on this occasion with the game on their own ground they should be able to turn the tables, especially as they have now had several games together, and their combination should show considerable improvement.

Thirty-seven years a member of St. Patrick’s Church Choir at Greymouth, and over 20 years its conductor, must surely establish something in the nature of a record for Mr H. F. Doogan. Keen regret was felt recently, therefore, when he announced that he wished to relinquish the baton. The note of regret was mingled with one of congratulation on Sunday evening, when, at St. Patrick’s Presbytery, Mr Doogan was the guest of Choir members and friends, and was presented with a handsome . leatherupholstered easy choir, and a seven-teen-volume set of the Catholic Ency-, clopnedia. Paying a gloving tribut" to Mr Doogan’s services to the Choir in particular, and the Church generally. Father Long expressed the keen regret felt at their guest’s decision to resign, but hoped that the easier t’m' he wished for would be ensured hv the gift they felt pleasure in asking him to accept.

The Princess Theatre last evening was crowded in every part with a delighted audience when the Allan Wilkie Company appeared for one night only, when they very successfully presented Shakespeare’s well-known play “ The Merchant of Venice.” The whole production was a very enjoyable one and a histrionic treat was provided by the Company the cast being a very strong one. Mr Allan Wilkie is well known for his capable representation of Shakespearean characters and he scored a very distinct success as Shylock, his interpretation of this well-known character being a very able and attractive one. Miss Hunter-Watts shared with Mr Wilkie in the honours of the production in Portia,' the part being given with remarkable histrionic success. The supporting members of the Company who met with appreciative recognition of the portrayal of their parts included Mr Alexander Marsh as Gratinno, Mr John Cameron as Bassnnio, Mr John Cairns as Antonio, Miss Mildred Howard as Nerissa, Miss Lorna | Forbes as Jessica, Mr Arthur Keane as Gobbo. The scenes were excellently selected the whole presentation being a very successful and enjoyable one. At the conclusion the principals were accorded a great reception being recalled again and again.

An accident happened to Mr Joseph Hutchison, a miner employed at the Middle Brake State Colliery, yesterday afternoon just before knockjng-off time. A stone fell from the roof, striking one of his legs and breaking it. He was conveyed for attention to the Grey River Hospital. , 1 '

The death occurred about 1 p.m./on Saturday at her residence, 42, Hereford Street, Christchurch, of Mrs'T. Hally, a sister of Nurse M. Spring (Greymouth). Deceased suffered from pneumonia, and had only been taken ill about a week prior to her demise. The late Mrs Hally is survived by her husband and two sons. Nurse Spring left for Christchurch on Saturday, having received word of her sister’s critical condition...
