RADIUM FOR CANCER.
“ I,flee ft good many other members of my profession who are dealing with cancer, I am constantly finding that 1 need radium for the treatment of my patients, and it is very hard to obtain it. Yesterday morning in hospital I saw a good many cases of cancer, and for two •of them I needed radium. I asked the radium officer at the hospital with which I am connected how soon a supply of. radium could be obtained, and lie said, ‘Not for a month in either of those two cases.’ That means that while these cases are waiting, and I am waiting to carry out the proper method rtf treatment, the disease must be steadily advancing. The same thing applies to other hospitals. To-morrow morning I hope to be using radium for the treatment of cancer, but I have had. to wait 20 days to obtain the necessary supply commercially.”—Dr. Somerville Hastings, M.P., in the House of Commons.
