NEW TYPE OF PLANE

EAST SPEED FROM SMALL ENGINES.

(Times Service)

BERLIN, September 19,

The treaty restrictions upon the construction of military aircraft in Germany are profoundly, influencing German aviation research. The aircraft makers abroad aim at obtaining the maximum performance through increased engine power. Germany, however, aims' at reducing the engine power to the minimum and at improving the aerodynamic qualities of the machine.

Hence there is interest being taken in the trials of a new Rhonvosittan tailless aeroplane, which has been pronounced satisfactory. .This company have been long prominent in motorless flying, and they first tried out mandriven models. They have now built a machine that is driven by a tenhorse power pusher. The screw surfaces and wing tips give direction, elevation and lateral balance.

The machine climbed well, and attained a speed of fifty miles per hour. It is an early example of the ‘‘flying wing ” aeroplane, towards which some firms are working, including the Junkers firm,""whose new all-metal monoplane, which is now being constructed, will have engines and some passenger accommodation in the wings. By thus modifying aircraft design, the German designers hope to solve in commercial aviation the economic problem.
