BAY OF WHALES, Sept. 17 We have been passing through one of the coldest periods ever recorded here. The average for the first fifteen days of this month has been fifty-one below zero, being much lower than was recorded by Amundsen. A geological party will go south to Queen Maud Mountains in October, when it is believed the temperature wil*l become decidedly warmer, but there is unlikely to be any flying done before December.
