Ramsay MacDonald packs for America, his twenty-six yoir-old daughter, Isabel, will be in charge of operations. While the attention of the world’s statesmen will be directed to Mr MacDonald, the eyes of. every woman in America will be turned qn his daughter, the hostess of No. 10, Downing Street, who has been described by the Queen as “a thoroughly charming girl.” She bids fair to be the 1*929 belle of New York. They wish to honour a girl who does not smoke and does not dance, who is versed in domestic virtues, and, while looking after the Prime Minister’s important guests., finds tipie to play an important. part in London’s municipal find social work. Hundreds of invitations from American hostesses and public bodies are pouring into Downing Street. The guests will see a slight girl with a mass of fluffy brown hair, who speaks in a low even voicq, lyHicfi bow and again breaks into an inffljptipus laugh.

Th<? popularity of the Tommy in the Rhineland is strikingly evidenced in the illustrations of the affectionate leave-taking of attractive-looking frauleins. German, newspapers' commenting on the departure of the troops, says the Tommies did not seem to be anxious and the civilians were equally unwilling to lose them. It is estimated about one hundred out of six thousand married Germans. A sergeant-major said German girls were great pals, but' not so good as English girls. NEW CRUISER. LONDON, September 17.
