William O’Connor, aged 57, was killed last night as the result of a fall of papa* in No. 3 tunnel: on Stratford main trunk railway work. As a sequel to the recent oil .fire in Carlyle Street, tfie South Island Trading Company was fined £5 on a charge of storing excessive petrol, and £5 for storing it in an unlicensed place. The Court ordered , the , confiscation of the petrol valued at £750.
DOCTOR FINED FOR SPEEDING. CHRISTCHURCH, September 18. Evidence that he had to travel frqm. 60 to 65 miles an hour to catch Dr R. H. Baxter, when the doctor was driving his car from Brighton to town, via Bower Bridge, was given in the Magistrate's Court by Inspector S. F. Nipper, when lie charged the doctor with driving at a dangerous speed. • . Defendant was fined £3.
