SOUTH ISLAND TEAM

A DUNEDIN PROTEST,

DUNEDIN, September 17

/At a meeting of the Rugby Union, the Secretary reported he had received a circular from the NeAV Zealand Union on Friday, inviting nominations for a South Island team and stating these must be in the hands of the Union by 5 p.m. to-morroAv.

Mr McDonald, one of the New Zealand selectors, said this Avas tlie first he had heard of nominations being invited.

Members took exception to the shortness of notice, one remarking there is something wrong. These teams are +o he the foundation of the New Zealand team next year and it is not fair treatment to football in the South, if we accept this without pointing out that sufficient notice has not been given, we are not doing our duty as legislators.

A motion was carried protesting against the action of the New Zealand Union in not giving sufficient notice.
