“BEYOND THE SIERRAS”

—TO-NIGHT,

Only bad weather prevented Tim McCoy and his Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer company from being in the path of the, devastating' flood which swept through San Francisquito Valley while “Beyond the Sierras,” wicfi comes to-night to the Princess Theatre, was being made. Two days before the great dam burst and -claimed many lives in the onrush of raging torrents, the McCOy Company, under direction of Nick Grinde, left their location in the canyon because otf poor weather. In the new McCoy action picture the charm and beauty of the valley before the flood laid waste the fertile land will be seen, virtually all of the outdoor scenes having been filmed there. The scene at the gold mine was taken just outside of Newhall, where the flood reached its height. The thrilling holdup scenes and running chases were filmed in the ruined valley, and many other sequences in the new McCoy starring vehicle depict scenes' of beauty that to-day sthnd desolate:. In choosing locations for “Beyond the Sierras” Grinde made the scenes in the Newhall region for the purpose of adhering to the historic interest in the story of Old California. For it was in this part of California that - the original gold discovery was made and the greatest of Spanish grants existed. With McCoy in the picture are Sylvia Beecher, his new leading lady; Roy D’Arcy, the “-heavy,” and Polly Moran, who supplies the comedy relief.

The usual supports will also be screened.

On Wednesday Master Pictures present “ Playing Straight,” with Bnbhv Agnew, Pauline Garon, Ben Turpin, Rex Lease, Joan Standing.
