SAVINGS BANK “ TAX.” Although all private savings banks have received notices from the Government that withdrawal forms for £2 and over which are, in efFect, receipts or cheques, ought to be stamped, so far no action has been taken to enforce such a regulation in respect of tli# Post Office Savings Bank. It is understood that no steps have been taken by the Government to make the dut/ applicable to its own banks. For S2 years the Auckland Savings Bank has used a withdrawal slip that was acknowledged as a receipt, although it was always understood it was exempt from stamp duty. The Post Office Savings Bank has also,enjoyed exemption.
