PARIS FASHIONS

PARIS, July 23

'Hie fashionable world has just been startled by being offered garments of straw, not, be. it understood in its prickly glory; but after it has had a dozen or so handlings, so that when it finally emerges, behold a tissue silky, deliratey and soft to touch. As you may imagine its price will keep it if or fortune’s darlings, but all the same I much doubt if it will take on. It was not Iso long ago that a great lady appeared at one of our big races wearing a wooden hat, of elegant shape, yes, and prettily coloured, and the vogue was freely prophesied. Alas, all illusions vanished with the next downpour, for the drops pattering like little hail-stones nearly deafened the charming wearer and effectually killed the patent.

The rage just now is for matching. No woman with any claims to elegance dreams of issuing from her boudoir until she lias accomplished the desired tint in details of dressy which colour must be repeated m her beautifully embroidered gloves, her ridiculously highheeled shoes, and her handbag, nowadays of proportions large enough to hold a delicious little umbrella. To meet the popular demand for varying parasols,, it is now possible to' buy a frame, on which you hook the desired cover! Nor must I forget to mention the cascade necklaces of ropes and ropes of t'iny glass bends loosely knotted together, with which one wears earrings and bracelets. A deft touch or two of the prevailing tone quickly administered to an accommodating complexion, completes a work of art.
