IN DIVORCE,

Emily Theresa Cooke v. Arthur Henry Beyesford Cooke, suit for divorce. Mr Murdoch for petitioner. Respondent did not appear. Emily Theresa Cooke gave evidence that she resided at Hokitika. She was married to Arthur Henry Beresford Cooke on 12th May, 1925, at Hokitika. . After marriage lived at Hokitika together for a fortnight. He then went to Christchurch. On 20th May, 1926, she obtained a separation order granted on the grounds of persistent cruelty and failure to maintain her. She had not seen her husband since. She was born in New Zealand and had liyed here all her life. v Her husband was born at Launceston in Cornwall and was at present in New Zealand.

Margaret Twomey gave evidence that she was a single woman residing at Hokitika. She was present when the separation order was granted. It was still in full force and effect.

Charles William Carver, clerk of the Magistrate’s Court, gave formal evidence of the making off. a separation order- 'between the parties before the Court.

A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute after three months, with usual costs according to scale. The Court then adjourned.
