RIt&ARR SARTHELMESS AND MOLLY O’DAY TO-NIGHT; >
Richard Barthelmess’s great picture, “The Patent Leather Kid, Mu. has been V jf' aiclaimed for. the remarkable ■■'realism *■, of, itg settings, and the almost inspired acting of the principals. Richard Barthelmess and Molly O’Day, who f enacts the role of the East; Side dancer with such faithfulness, and makes of the vivid character s*uch a dramatic success. The story, which is the meet credible and convincing of any prodution dealing with boxing and', the war, has afforded Barthelmess a chance , to show just how good he is. He lives the part of “The Patent Leather Kid,” catching the spirit of the braggart, egotistic hard-living, hard-loving young • pugilist, while the acting of Molly O’Day is something not often seen on i y the screen. This attractivelittle iplayor does some wonderful work in this production; at one moment a cheeky " provocative little gamin, at 'another the eternal woman sacrificing herself for love, and the coward man she had given her brave little heart to. . .The war scenes are the most, spectacular ever screened, not excepting the greatest war pictures of the past decade. . . The exploits of the Tank Corps are guaranteed to give the most blase a kifck v Alfred Santell in directing the picture built up ( around the sterling performance of the stars, an atmosphere and sustained interest with intense action to the last close-up. One of the surprises was the work of Molly • O’Day. She handled a difficult character like a veteran performer. A Topical, and Comedy will also be shown. Special selections by the orchestra.
