DISARMAMENT

. UNITED STATES ATTITUDE. ADVISORY NOTE 1 TO DAWES. I United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 9,25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 12. A revision of the United States position for disarmament, facilitating an agreement with Britain, and to bring such accord very near, is believed to have resulted from the protracted conferences between Mr Hoovey, Mr Stimson, Secretary Adams, and the General Board of the Navy. It is hoped within the near future, perhaps within 24 hours, that new instructions will go forward to General Dawes for presentation to Sir MacDonald.

The indications were that the Conferences, had .to do with the readjustment of the fifteen cruiser construction programme, effecting re-distribution of tonnage, gunpower and other elements to conform with the wishes of the British Government.

Mr Stimson announced , that a communication had been despatched to General Dawes on the subject of naval disarmoment, but he declined to make any comment thereon.

It is announced that no information will be given on the naval disarmament instructions to General Dawes, until a reply is received from London,

It is undrstood that the Treaty reply would he welcome here and it is not believed that the suggestion contained in the cable to General Dawes will require prolonged examination by- the British authorities.
