[By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] MOTOR DRiIVER FINED. DUNEDIN, Sept. 13. Ernest William. Haggitt, charged with negligently driving a motor, was fined leu pounds sterling and prohibited from driving, for twelve months. The police stated a young woman alighting from a tram was struck and pushed some distance along the ground, having to receive medical attention. Defendant was driving, at an excessive speed. , : THEFT CHARGES. WELLINGTON ,Sept. 13. Eight charges of theft of goods, including tools, overcoats, clocks and other (articles to a total value of £l9 11s, were admitted in the Magistrate’s Court by a labourer, Arthur Victor Jones. Accused stated he had committed the offences because he was hard up. Two offences had been committed from churches while the services were in progress, ■ , “On several occasions I could have taken more than I did, but I only took enough to keep-ime going,” said the accused from the dock. ■ He was sentenced to three months on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. DAMAGES, AWARDED. .. PALMERSTON N., Pent. 13. Damages, amounting to £471 7s 6d. have been awarded plaintiff, bv Mr justice Smith in a reserved judgment delivered in- a claim made by Allan McKenzie Block, need j 18, against Elizabeth and John Macfarlane, of Levin. as defendants. The claim was the outcome of a motor collisipn which occurred on April Ist. last when plaintiff received a painful'injury, resulting in the permanent loss of 75 per cent, of the sight of the right eye.
