SWIMMING
CHAMPIONSHIPS AT GREYMOUTH (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association tonight approved of the programme of the New Zealand Swimming Championships, which are to be held at Greymouth in January. It-was reported that a tour of New Zealand by Noel Ryan, the distance champion of Australia, and R. Grier, the sprint champion of Australia, during the coming season, was practically assured, though no official advice had yet been received from the Australian Union. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 13. The New Zealand Life Saving Council has decided to hold the Annual Championships at Greymouth on January 28th and to alter Clause seventeen to provide for a New Zealand standard belt and line. Another decision was that each member of a Nelson Shield team should be a bona fide amateur in accordance with the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association'. This will exclude paid patrolmen.
