AT MONTE CARLO
REVOLUTION NEAR. , UNLESS PRINCESS PREVAILS. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigb t.) MONTE CARLO, Sept. 10. Princess Charlotte has hurriedly returned from Lake Como, in Italy, to take a hand to stem the rising tide of revolution in this Principality, in which her father is the reigning Prince, and in which her husband, Prince Pierre, has failed. The Princess is both clever and popular, and she is expected to be a big force in saving the throne, which has been in the possession of the Grimaldi dynasty for nearly one thousand years. The feeling against the Prince reached such fury* and resentment that there is even .talk of a coup d’etat. Seven hundred leading citizens actually marched to the palace and roughly treated the Guards, who attempted to block their way. They shouted insults at the sovereign. The principality is ringing with threats of finding a new Prince, proclaiming a Republic, or joining with France.
The chief of many grievances is that the Casino Company pocket all the profits, and Jo not spend money on improvements and new attractions, with the result that Monte Carlo is going out of fashion. Its shops and hotels are badly hit, and there also are too many foreigners employed by them/ The inhabitants are exasperated seeing trainloads of tourists passing Monaco to gamble at San Romo, its Italian rival.
