That an excursion by Los Angeles people' to Now Zealand is contemplated is announced in a letter the Government Publicity Department has received from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the communication being the outcome of a suggestion by the Department that the • ,chainbci should arrange a tour embracing the Dominion and Australia. “We are looking forward to the time when it will be possible to accept your invitation/’ states the manager of the Shipping Department of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, in bis reply to the Publicity Department’s suggestion, “but I fear that the time is not opportune just at present. We have a representative in the Far East and contemplate chartering a -ship for a trip around the world whenever we can find available the sort of vessel we want. “We have in mind,” the letter proceeds, “the opening of a branch office either in New Zealand or Australia, and whenever conditions will permit, running an excursion for Los Angeles people to your country. We are conversant with your great scenic atrtactior.s and we believe that we can .got a considerable party for such a tour “Although Los Angoles anl Southern California are Such g’-eat tourist centres of America our passenger transport facilities between &.,ithciiCalifornia and your (part <>f O’ ■ world nre not all that could be desired. We are constantly working to improve this situation, as we wish to promote travel in both directions, inviting your people to come here as well as sending ours down to you. As .soon as we have an adequate' passenger steamship line we will be ready .to undttrtake ..an organised excursion from Los Angeles to New Zealand and Australia and we also invite, your people to come here.”
