GREATER SYDNEY SCHEME. ABANDONED BY GOVERNMENT. v 1 1 (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 11. The practical abandonment of the Government’s Greater Sydney scheme was decided on at a meeting of combined National and Country parties. It was decided, therefore, to revert to the old form of City Council Government.
The election of the Council will probably be made in the middle of 1930.
VINDICTIVE LIBEL.
£3,000 AWARDED
SYDNEY, September 11
For a libel which the Chief Justice described ns vindicative and cowardly, Sylvester Hardiman (Secretary of the branch of the Australian Labour Party) was awarded £3.000, the full amouirl of his claim, from the “Workers Weekly,” a Sydney publication. The defendants were ordered to pay all costs. !
The libel was that under a sub-title, “ Scab Union Organiser,” it was stated Hardiman was in contact with the underworld and when any dirty work was to be done he mobilised the slum elements.
