LADIES’ TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED. GISBORNE, Sept. 7. To-day saw the conclusion of the most successful cnampionship tournament, both from the social and financial standpoint, ever held by the New Zealand Ladies Hockey Association. The visiting players had (been entertained at functions every night, and on Sunday last over two hundred of the visitors were taken out ..twenty miles to Te Karaka and entertained by the residents and Maoris. Throughout the nine days’ play in the tournament, typical spring weather has been exnerienaed, with the exception of -one day early in the week, when rain came on as the second series of the afternoon’s games was commenced The attendances have constituted a record, the approximate receipts for the tournament being £630. The majority of the visitors leave for home to-morrow. To-day’s attendance was estimated at 2000. The inter-island game resulted in a draw, each side scoring one goal.
