TRADE PROSPECTS
BRITISH TRADE COMMISSIONER’S VIEWS. ‘By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10." Mr L. A. Paish, 0.8. E., British Trade Commissioner succeding Mr F. B. Beale, arrived to-day by the .Maheno. Interviewed, he declared there were no grounds of pessimism regarding the future of British trade, which would benefit by overcoming competition. The real difficulty was that the huge war debt was a formidable charge on top of all manufactured goods; but in spite of that Britain was still almost the leading manufacturing and exporting nation in the world to-day, with the possible exception of the united States,' a larger country with a much larger population. So much of New Zealand trade was already in British hands that an increase in trade largely depends on increased Dominion prosperity. Important steps are being taken by the motor trade with a view to securing more, of the' Dominion’s trade. •The depression at Home had led to reconditioning many factories which could not but help in improving trade. The'British manufacturer' , had. been shown something to beat and was beating it. ~ v, ! , ' 7 , TRADE WITH ARGENTINE. - RUGBY, Sept. 9.
