RETURNS OF NUMBERS AND COST WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. Information as to the number of youths performing military service was laid on the table of the House of Representatives to-day, in response to motions for returns for the information of Air AY. J. Jordan (Lab., Alanakau). It was stated that the number of males between the ages of 14 and 20 years, excluding Maoris, was as follows: 1926, 90,030; 1927, 92,407; 1928, 94,023. Those actually performing Territorial of Cadet service in those years are as follows:—l926, 50,808; 1927, 56,642; 1928, 55,673. A return moved for by Mr T. W. McDonald (U., Wairarapa) showed that the number of Cadets connected with schools was 14,911, and the number not connected with schools 13,846. The estimated cost of training (Jothing, arms, and equipment of Cadets and Teritorials was £40,954.
