INDUSTRIAL PEACE

PROPOSALS APPROVED

(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigb t. )

LONDON, Sept. 0,

The Tracies Union Congress debated the Mond-Turner conferences upon the following motion: “That this Congress declare its opposition to the false cry of industrial peace and the policy of tolla.jora.tion with the enemies of Labour, who are ruthlessly attacking the standard of living of the working classed while engaged in conferences forthwith,” After Mr Bevari had strongly defended the conferences, 'the .mc'&ioii was rejected by a largj majority.

The “Daily Herald,” commenting on the debate, emphasises Mr Bevan’s addtendum, and says trade unionists c-anuot stop at mere discussion on wages. Continuing, the Daily Herald says Trade Union leaders aro as good as the employers’ leaders , any day of the week and just as capable of holding their own in conferences. The recommendations upon Trade Union recognition of victimisation conciliation boards and unemployment, represent a substantial victory for trade union principles. The . Mond-Turnor conferences are only a stepping stone to a 'wider and more representative iorm of organisation. It now' rests with the employers’ organisations to decide whether the proposals shall be scraps of paper.
