ANNUAL MEETING. The 21st annual meeting of members liras held in the pavilion at 7.15 p.m. Present: Messrs Wm. Wilson (President, iir the chair), J. J. Breeze, Knowles-Smith, Stevenson, Cooke, J. King, C. J. King, D: Stuart, T. W. Barrownian, J. G. Lakin, W. Braddon, and A. Beniamfn •'{hon. : sec.). Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Coles, J. H. Wilson and J. B. Ward. ' ■ ’ On the motion of the President, a vote of sympathy Hvitl’/the Secretary in his recent bereavement was carried in silence, members' standing. The minutes of. the previous meeting read and confirmed. A letter was read from Rev. J. W. Hayward 1 tendering ,His resignation.— Received with regret. The following new , members were proposed .and elected:—Messrs *W. Chetwynd, L. Spencer,..!* Dougherty, R. Cox, FV Ballinger, P. Boyce, G. A. Adamson, W. Gilpin, T. Kerr, J. L. Turner, J. Findlay, and Rev. Father Finerty; annual report. In submitting the 21st annual report for the past year I have, pleasure in, advising a fairly successful Beason, though the absence of outside teams visits except for the West Coast Tournament, somewhat damped the ardour of players. Financial.—The, balance sheet discloses a very satisfactory position. In spite of the small membership, the management are able to report a further reduction in. the bank overdraft. -The receipts for the year amounted to £ll2 14s 6d (including £26 the net proceeds of the annual ball) and the expenditure was £lOl 3s. This enabled the bank overdraft to be reduced from £40.95. Bd, to £2B

Tli'e visiting Ibowlers spoke in l the 1 most appreciative tefms. of tlie--hospitality extended them throughout the tourney and''the Club'• areT ;ugainff deeply . indebted to the lady/'supporters f6r the very generous; support accorded, the whole of the' entertainment arrangements reflecting every credit oh ' their very'Mible- management. The Rink cliamionship was won by ’ Hokitika, Messrs J. Breeze, G. Lakin, W. Wilson afijd D. Stevenson . proving successful, Jj';while Hokitika’s other ' rink •consisting of Messrs J. Conning, P. ;: Ji Howard, G. Anderson, and A. Benjamin were . runners-up,_ a s distinct , achievement. Tlie Pairs championship resulted in a win for Messrs -E. Moss and F. D. Whibley (Greymouth). Messrs F. Pope and W. Southward (Runanga) • being run-ners-up*.. The Champion of Champions singles was won by Mr D. Stevenson (Hokitika). . • " Club Games.—The usual Club games were played and caused much interest, but owing to. various reasons there were no Inter-Club games played during the season. Mr W. ;Newman kindly donated a handsome rug for competition/ and . this; .will be competed for during the season. The Green.—During the season considerable attention was given the green and the playing surface showed much improvement and was in. good order for the tourney. The main shed "was renewed and other work attended to. The work of the greenkeeper proved very satisiactory and the general appearance of the green was the subject of much commendation throughout the season. Some repairs will be necessary to the pavilion : during the year. The green at the Mental Hospital was iiiade.‘available for play during the year,-' and a number of members took part in play there on various occasions. Conclusion.—-Before, concluding I would again place on record apprec? iation of the generous assistance of the lady supporters at the tourney, and on the occasion of the annual ball. Their assistance so freely given has aggin added to the debt of gratitude of the 'Club to them. Without that assistance the Clulb would not be on such a stable footing as its general position is. ' - The balance sheet showed receipts totalled £ll2 14s 6d, including members’ subscriptions £73 2s and proceeds of ball £26, and expenditure £lOl 3s. leaving a debit balance at the hank of £2B 18s 2d, a reduction for the year of £ll 11s 6d. The report and balance sheet were received and adopted on the motion of j the President, seconded by Mr Knowles Smith, the latter referring to the lack of inter-Club games and voicing a proposal for consideration of members in regard to travelling to and fro. It was resolved that a vote of thanks be accorded the lady supporters of the Club foiy'fheir assistance during the year, a special vote being accorded those ladies outside the Club who had* given their .assistance and aided in connection with' refreshments. It was resolved that a vote of thanks he accorded Mr W. Newman for his donation of a handsome Kaiapoi rug as a trophy for competition among mem- ’ hers, the Match Committee to report as
to the best course of competing for same. / •
The President (Mr Wm. Wilson) on behalf of last season’s rink champions asked acceptance of a framed photograph of the team, to be hung in the pavilion.—Received and accepted with pleasure. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows : President—Mr H. F. Cooke. Vice-President —Mr J. J. Breeze. Secretary and Treasurer—Mr A. E. Benjamin. Auditor—Mr J. H. Wilson. General Committee—Messrs Stevenson, Braddon, Bruce, Stuart, Lakin, Knowlcs-Smith, C. J. King, T. Moore, W. Wilson, and T. W. Barrowman. Delegate to' Centre—The Secretary. Selection Committee President, Vice-President, and Mr W. Stevenson. Ground Committee —Messrs Stevenson, Braddon, Lakin, and Moore. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officials. The opening day was fixed for Wednesday, October 9th. It was resolved to arrange for afternoon tea on Wednesdays and .Saturdays. It was resolved to ask trophy holders to hand in their various trophies for the opening of the season. The subscription was fixed oil the same terms os previously. 1 - The arrangements for caretaker were endorsed on lines of last year, which had proved mutually satisfactory.' •:
After a number of- minor matters were discussed the meeting terminated at 8.15 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the chair.
