PARLIAMENT
TI-IE SESSION. PRIME MINISTER HOPES FOR END IN SIX WEEKS. WELLINGTON, September 1. With the end of the Financial Debate in sight, members are now speculating as to when the work of the present session of parliament will be completed. in reply to a question yesterday, the Prime Minister said lie expected the House to rise about the second week in October, but iff his estimate is to be reached, business will have to be accelerated during the next few weeks. A further instalment of the Govern- ' ment’s legislative programme should show up at any time now, chief among the measures in prospect being the Transport Bill. In any case there is sufficient element of contention in some of the Bills on the Order Paper, due for committal or second reading, to keep members fully occupied. Good progress .has been made witlv the presentation of Departmental reports, but opportunities have yet to be provided 'for the discussion oi them. The next important document to ho tabled is the Railways Statement, which may appear this week.
