A WHIRLWIND
CAUSES SOME EXCITEMENT. • . ... About 11.15 ! o’clock this morning a whirlwind struck the town causing some alarm and* damage. It came from north to south but the line of. damage was only about a chain or two > in width. It struck Revell Street in the vicin- ■ ity of Hampden Street junction 1 - and 1 lifted up old iron and other moveables into the air without apparent damage. - to any buildings, .except at the/ipolice sections. The entire roof of the woodshed at Sergt. King’s residence r.was-,p lifted bodily off and it distributed the sheets of iron along the railway line, ivlnle a fence at Constable Randall’s was laid flat and the corner panel oFv the police station fence was laid down on the footpath. ■ ./i The whirlwind stopped suddenly as it was crossing Weld Street and the iron and debris came to the ground suddenly. There was a loud noise from the whirling iron, etc. and those in the vicinity had a fright, thinking a big earthquake was coming again. A loud crash of thunder /followed im- r r . mediately after the visitation. The actual damage so far reported is not of great extent.
