CABLE MERGER
REPLY TO CRITICISM
(United Press Association.—ByElectrio Telegraph .—Copyright.)
LONDON, August 27
The “Times” city editor says Sir J. G. Ward’s criticism of the cable wireless merger seems to be based on a misapprehension since tho merger recommended, after careful consideration by the conference on which Sir J. Parr represented the New Zealand Government, that tho cables were not remunerative or likely to become so, wherefore it was decided to sell them, the Governments obtaining very generous terms. Sir J. Ward’s suggestion that the merger company can dictate terms, ignores the Imperial Conference s decision that the Imperial Government through an advisory committee shall control the merger company’s policy amd approve of the nomination of certain Board members though the merger was .more advantageous to cable owners than wireless companies in enabling the former to capitalise the position before wireless competition was felt.
