MASTERTON, August 28

The Ranfurly Shield holders again demonstrated their superiority in Rugby to-day when they defeated Canterbury by 17 points to 12, in oiie of the best games seen in Wairarapa for a considerable time. Except in the opening stages of the first spell, Wairarapa held an advantage throughout. Cooke played an outstanding game for Wairarapa, and Oorkhill and Roach also played sound games. In the forwards, Irvine, Reid and Harvey were the pick. The most prominent Canterbury backs were Harris, Hart and Mullan, while in the forwards Cotterell, Burrows and • Toby Robinson were the most prominent. The half-time score was five all. Tries for Wairarapa were scored by M. Willoughby, Irvine and Cundy, one being converted by 'Fuller, and one by Gundy, while Cook kicked a field goal. For Canterbury .Toby Robinson and Hart scored tries, one being converted by Lilburne, while Hay kicked a field goal. ,vij> Mr T. Fletcher, of Wellington, has. been selected as the referee for the Wairarapa-Southland Shield match at Carterton on Saturday.

PAHIATUA, August 28

At Rugby to-day, Wellington B defeated Bush by six to nil, under ideal conditions. Honours went to the visiting backs, who threw the ball about attractively. Peterson and .Broderick scored a try each. The. Rush vanguard, even with four regular mom., bers of the pack absent, maintained a slight superiority. At half time the score was three to nil.
