MORPETH IN FINAL. (Australian Press. Association) ADELAIDE, August 28. Sloan Morpeth (New Zealand) defeated Apperley in the amateur golf championship eight up and seven to play.

Morpeth and Ryan will play in the final to-morrow.

Clem Hill, the famous international, cricketer, refereed the Morpetli-Apper-ley match. Morpeth was three up at the end of the morning, his .fine driving and cleVer iron play both compensating for his weak putting. Apperley was one up at the turn, Morpeth missing a two-foot putt at the sixteenth. The next was nearly halved in threes, Apperley with a magnificent machie getting eight feet from the pin, but missing his putt, Morpeth holed a six-footer, and got a superb eagle at five hundred yards at the seventeenth.

-Morpeth . got home in thirty-five strokes and did the round. in seventysix. Apperley took eighty. Taking the twenty-first with a birdie three, Morpeth was four up at the twenty-fourth, and he was six up at tlie twenty-eighth. The game now took a sensational turn. Apperley duffed his drive in a drain, and was short on .his second from a stance on a footbridge. Then he laid a screaming, brassie on the green almost three hundred yards away, and he holed a thirty-foot putt for a par four. Morpeth followed with a long drive, straight second, and was down with a twelve-footer for a birdie three. Apperley missed a short putt at the twenty-ninth hole, Morpeth thus winning the match eight and seven. Ryan beat Hattersly one up, and thus Ryan and Morpeth play the final to-m or.ro w. Among the professionals, Bissett beat Thomson .two and one, while Stewart beat James eight and seven. The final will be played on Saturday.
