Britain has arrived within sight of a stationary population, declared Sir George Newman, the Chief < Medical officer of the Ministry of Health, in the coures of his annual report. ... Sir G. Newinan estimates that the ddults in Britain will be twice as numerous as the children in tlie yeai--1941, tlnis completely reversing the prewar situation. He states that the woman of working age at present outnumber the men by 1,250,000.. Sir Geo. Newman describes 1928-29 as - having been'the healthiest year recorded. Tlie infant mortality touched the lowest point, being 65 per tliritisiand. On the contrary, the maternal mortality reached 42 per thousand, b-llich is the highest figure ever-re-corded. T-Tcai't disease continues to he the chief killer, followed by pneumonia add liing disease.
