Mrs Coveil and Mrs Shepherd Barron defeated Mrs Harper and Edith Cross I —6, 6—4, 6—2 in the doubles semifinals. •

The defeat of Mrs Harper and Cross was due to steadiness of the English women. Cross’s magnificent volleying in tTi'e first set was something she was unable to continue and this coupled with Mrs Harper’s unsteadiness caused tne Americans’ attack to crumble before their opponents’ onslaught.
