CUTTING DOWN IN AUSTRALIA- • (Australian Association) .SYDNEY; August 23. The..Victoria,n and New South Wales Government, are considering the advisability of curtailing the number ol horse and pony race .meetines. The Victorian Government proposes to reduce the number of racing days bv fifty. Mostly mid-week' suburban and pony meetings will be affected, which are'adjudged as responsible fet .yravfe economic loss. Agitation has now begun in Sydney where there is racing practically five days a week. The “Sun” in an editorial says the whole business of midweek . pony racing is a reflection on the intelligence and serious purpose ofvthe people- of this State, providing horrible examples -of ill-spent lives. ' ‘
