ABSCONDER FROM BAIL. , (By Telegraph—Press Association). , CHRISTCHURCH, August 21. At Christchurch, when Albert Holt was called at the Supreme Court today to answer a. charge of indecent assault on a female, there was no appearance of accused. The Crown Prosecutor explained that the accused had absconded from bail, and that a warrant had been issued on Monday .for liis arrest, on the application of bis surety. The Crown Prosecutor applied that the bail be estreated, but, at tlie request of counsel for the surety, bis Honour agreed to hold over his decision. FINGERPRINT CONVICTION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 21. In the Supreme Court to-day, Adolphus James Curline was found guilty of indecent assault on a boy, aged 14, and with attempted indecent assault. Finger-print" evidence was a large pari of the Crown’s case. Some prints on a bottle found at the scene of the first offence were proved to be those of Curline. The prisoner was remanded for sentence. Harold Petliernn pleaded- guilty to ai 'charge of mischief in respect of damage done to a building at Woolston. He was remanded for sentence’. APPEAL AGAINST CONVICTION. INVERCARGILL, August 21. In the Supreme Court before bis Honour Justice Kennedy, yesterday John Barnfield and Benjamin Griffiths appealed against a conviction entered against them by the Magistrate at Otautau on June 17 when they were jointly charged with the theft from a store at Nightcaps of a sack of potatoes, a saeic of onions, and two and a-half cases df petrol. BarnsfielcT was further charged with being on licensed premises by night without lawful excuse. The appellant had been sentenced to two months’ imprisonment,. After hearing the evidence, his Honour had reserved his decision till this morning, when he announced that the appeals would be dismissed, and the appellants were ordered to pay costs.
