WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.
The usual weekly meeting was held last evening at Greymouth. 11 was resolved to write asking the Westland Sub-Union to obtain an explanation from the Kiwi Club, as to why they did not notify the Union that they could not fulfil their fixture with Stars last Saturday. It was also decided that Kiwis lose the competition points for the forfeit. A report w.asj received from the captain of the Cobden seven-aside team (F. Eggleton) re the success in the Ross,, tourney. It was decided that the Union’s congratulations be tendered to the Club. The Nelson Union wrote stating that it was anticipated that a tour of the Coast and Buller would be made this season, and asking for a match in Greymouth on Thursday, 18th September. It was decided to request that a Wdnesday match le arranged, Wednesday being the weekly half-holiday, and to "offer the Nelson Union 75 per cent of the nett gate for such a match. A letter was received from the luangahua Sub-Union re the condition of the Dittman Shield when handed over to the Westland Sub-Union. It was resolved to explain that no motion was passed condemning the Sub-Union, and the Union "had the matter of repairs tithe Shield in hand. ' 'V; , The Westland Sub-Union wrote explaining why a player had left the field before a match was finished,' the explanation being accepted. It was resolved that the McKechnie Cup now become the property of the Excelsior Club, the latter having won same two years in succession, and also \to advise that the Club must attend to the engraving of the trophy. The Westland Sub-Union wrote asking if. rules allowed for the Sub-Union to challenge for the Seddon Shield, 't was agreed to advise that the Seddon Snielcl rules did not allow for more than one challenge from one Union in a season. The Sub-Union also wrote accepting the Dittman Shield challenge with the Grey team at Hokitika on September "14th. - xt was resolved that'Ross v. Cobden juniors play as a curtain raiser .to the Duller v. Coast match on Saturday, 31st August, providing that definite information was forthcoming by Thursday that Ross could play. It was decided to procure five dozen books re .control of the scrummage (by Mr T. A. Fletcher) and to distribute same to Referees’ Association and Clubs. The selectors were instructed to select the representative team next Saturday to play Buller on August 31.
t was resolved that, Technical be declared winners of the fourth grade competition, and also to institute a new one-round competition.
The following fixtures were drawn up for next' Saturday Seniors.—Brunner v. • Excelsiors, at Hokitika, at 3 p.m. (referee, Mr D. Heenau): Kiwis v. United at Park, B ground, 3 p.m. (Mr H. Ryan); Blaketown v. Stars at Park, A ground, 3 p.m. (Mr W. Pring).
CANTERBURY RUGBY TEAM. . By telegraph, Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 21. At a meeting of Canterbury Rugby Union the selectors reported that it ivas doubtful whether Carleton, Oliver, Lilburne, and Cottrell would be able to go further than Wairarapa on the coming North Island tour.
