INTERESTED VISITORS

By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, August 21

By the Ulimaroa there arrived Messrs Pronk and representatives of Dutch East Indies Shipping Company, to enquire into the prospects of direct trade with the East. They will discuss matters witli the Prime Minister and producers and exporters, hut will not have time to visit the South Island. They consider New Zealand is handicapped by having to trade through Australia and tranship there, which kills its chance of getting a footing in the East. With a direct service tliqy, think there is an excellent chance of building up a trade In daily produce. More meat was being used in the East but there are still religious obstacles to be overcome. Tourist traffic is also a factor to be considered.
