The terribly-crush-ed body of Marvel Crosson, aged 25, one of the best known female pilots in America was found alongside the wreckage of her plane. She had evidently jumped from a height of several hundred rf'eet, but the parachute failed to function. Amongst eighteen ether contestants, four claimed that their ’planes had been tampered with during their overnight stay at San Bernadino, California. The authorities are investigating. ARRIVAL AT DOUGLAS. (Received thjs day at noon.) NEW YORK, Aug. 29. At Douglas (Arizona) 'competitors in (the women’s air derby reached that control point to-night. Mrs Thader, tof Pittsburg leads. Miss Earhart is fourth and Miss Elder is. sixth. OFFICIALS' INVESTIGATING. NEW YORK, Aug. 20. Investigations into C'rosson’s death has been started and officials are looking into rumours that some of the planes had been tampered with en route. Several participants in the race claim that attempts have been made to have the race called off.
