SEEING EUROPE

USES HIS OWN PLANE

(United Press Association—By Electric 1 Telegi aph—Copy r igh t). /

LONDON, August 19

.Turning out of a two-aeater Moth aero; lane after completing a week’s jaunt of 2500 miles, Air Hamisli Armstiong, sheep fanner, of Hawke’s Bay, Ne*.v Zealand, exclaimed, “Flying over Europe .in iour own ’plane heats train travelling hollow.” Mr Armstrong, who has booked his homeward passage for September 14tli, was determined to see all that lie possibly could before leaving. He bought a Moth plane for £7OO three weeks ago. He then took flying lessons at the London Aero Club, and shared the piloting across Europe with a South African friend, Air Borden Stone. , He said: “Last Saturday, we hop-' ped to Paris for the week-end there. Then we crossed the Black Mountains to ATunich, calling at Nancy and Strasbourg, taking our meals in route. Thence we went to Friedriehshafen, where we visited the Dormer Works, and we saw the Graf Zeppelin start on her world tour. We lunched at Uremborg, and had afternoon tea at Leipzig and then took dinner at Berlin, where we spent a day. We left for London yesterday, calling at Hanover, Osnobmek, Amsterdam, and Calais, for a refill, either for ourselves or for the machine. AVe experienced no mechanical troubles, though a head-wind between Calais and Lon-. don necessitated our landing at Tonbridge, because wo had no navigating lights. We had a’ grand time. AVe will fly about England and Scotland during this week. The Moth plane will bo very handy in New Zealand, for calling on friends, or for locating bush fires.”
