OF LEAGUE COMMITTEE. 1 (Australian Press. Association) (Received this day at 8 a.m.) r. /GENEVA, Aug. .19. .■• The' League’s Econonpmic Committee’s report on the sugar situation outpoints that the consumption . since the war had increased 4J per cent., while production' had increased, much more particularly of cane sugar, owing to the high prices during the war and immediately post-war. They are of the opinion that the present difficulties could be largely solved bv. the industry itself, or the Governments concerned. The present crisis has been aggravated by the measures adopted by many countries for stimulating production without faking into account the repercussions -that non-co-ordinated measures may hove on the world situation. The report concludes by suggesting fhe desirability of Governments lowering the excise duty without prejudicing their iiscal situations.
