MINING IN WAIHI
NEW COMPANY PROPOSED. A representative gathering of business and mining men, including several “district prospectors, assembled at the Waihi Council Chambers some days ago, to discuss proposals' for the formation of a prospecting and mining company, following the" representations made to the Minister of Mines when visiting Waihi for investigation of the field tiy itliamond drilling or o-her methods. A communication received from the Minister was to the effect that he would discuss the scheme with Dr Henderson upon his return from South Africa. The Mayor said it was necessary to form a company preparatory to the finalising of the scheme, and the commencement of operations. The whole Ohinemuri district was worthy oi searching investigation. lie moved that'a committee of seven members be set up to take the necessary steps for the formation, of the Waihi District Prospective and Mining Coy., Ltd., with a capital of £30,000 in 60,000 shares of 10s each, the first issue to consist of 20,000 shares. A lengthy discussion followed. Hr H. W. Hopkins strongly supported the scheme Mealing principally, with the geological aspect. Mr S. Shaw suggested the reservation of the Waihi Central area for in-, vestigation. Mr F. W. Macwilliams claimed that his investigations showed that the famous Martha, Edward, Royal, and Empire lodes could be located clear of fault lines, and well outside the Waihi Company’s area. Waitekauri and Karangahake also offered similar possibilities.
Particulars of important prospecting operations in the vicinity of Waihi were described by Mr A. McNaughton. 'The Mayor’s motion was carried unanimously. Tbe fob owing committee was appointed : Messrs H. W. Hopkins, w'. H. WaHnutt. W. H. Toy, J. B. Beeche, F. AY. Macwilliams, E. Dye, and E. A. Mc-Leay.
