“JOHN BULL” OUT OF DATE. In the opinion of the Travel Asso&fi.tion of Great Britain and Ireland, Britannia as a symbolical figure fails to meet the requirements of those who wish to place a welcoming device on publicity literature, porters, stamps, advertisements stationery. Prizes o; £SO, £2O and £ls are offered in a competition, of which Sir William Orpen is committee chairman, to choose a design. The traditional John Bull, they say, is too rotund for the temperate, living Englishman of j today. What is wanted is something that will be ns clearly recognisable and which -will convey am idea as distinctly as does the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbour. ‘ ,
