The following is the translation of a telegram received from the Captain of the “Tourville” by the Prime Minitser: “As the Tourville leaves your beautiful country ,1 wish to express my gratitude for the warm and kindly welcome which we have received at the hands of the Government of New Zealand. We send our best thanks to the two great cities where we have been so hospitably entertained, and to all the associations who hove welcomed us as friends. We shall retain an indelible memory of our stay in the Dominion.” The Prime Minister has replied as follows to Captain Abrial on the French cruiser “Tourville” .by radio: “I sincerely thank you for our telegram. We are very gratified to know that your visit to New Zealand has proved so enjoyable to yourself, your officers, and men, and that you will retain memories of your short sojourn among us. I can assure you, on behalf of the Government, and people of New Zealand, tnat your visit has afforded us extreme pleasure, and will serve to strengthen still further the feelings of goodwill between respective countries —Joseph Waid. The following telegram was received by the Governor-General from the Commander of the Cruiser “Tourville” on her departure from New Zealand. I tender to, Your Excellency my respectful thanks for the welcome which has been given to us.” His Excellency replied as follows: “I thank you very much, and, on behalf of the people of New Zealand, let me assure you of the pleasure which your visit has given to us. A pleasant voyage and good luck to the “Tourville” and her ship’s company.
