DRY LAW POLICE ARRESTS
“SPEAKEASIES” RAIDED

NEW YORK, August 14
One hundred and fifty men and women, including the Mayor and the Chief of Police of East Chicago, have been arrested by Prohibition agents, who, have raided scores of ‘‘Speakeasies” along the Lake front. Thirty girls were arrested while tending the bars,- mostly for their parents’ bootlegging operations. Thousands of gallons of beer and alcohol have been seized. SURGICAL CONFERENCE. (Received this day at 12.25. p.m.) HONOLULU, August 15. Dr Osborne, of Melbourne, addressed the Pan-Pacific Surgical Conference on some applications of recent physiology to surgery. His address was largely of professional interest. He praised the breadth of outlook shown by placing such a paper on the programme quoted Drs Hamilton and Russell’s- conclusions regarding treating of fractures according to physiological principles.
