The Hokitika Ladies’ Hockey Club travelled to Brunner yesterday and had .mother victory, winning by 12 goals to nil. Neither lteams were at full strength, Brunner fielding nine players and- Hokitika ten, while the ground was the worst ever played on by the local girls. Scorers were: E. Butson t, M. Sumner 4, J. Hall 3, 0. Stapletdn 1.

Following the final curtain of “Rip Van Winkle” to-night at the Princess Theatre, and before the National Anthem, the, Rev. Nelson Wright, Vicar of All Saints, will address the audience and performers with a few words of thanks. The audience, we are asked to state, might kindly remain seated for the little function which is to take place.

The final production locally of the successful opera “Rip Van Winkle” will be given at the Princess Theatre to-night, and from all accounts will draw another large attendance. The opera is to he staged at Greymouth next Tuesday night, a train returning to Hokitika after the performance. Those wishing to travel on the return train will be provided with accommodation, and it is quite likely a considerable number of local patrons will go north, to witness the northern production. i

It is reported from Kokatahi that hawks are causing some fatalities among newly born lambs. One settler states that he has lost several lambs from this cause during the past week, the lambs being attacked and their kidney torn out, the lambs being still alive when the mischief was discovered. Otherwise the lambing season is proving very successful, the fine weather proving very suitable. Quite an exceptional number of twins are reported among the flocks, and in a couple of instances there were triplets. Messrs Harley and Co. Ltd., the Universal Home-makers, wish the general public of Hokitika to know that their representative, Mr A. Robertson, is now in Hokitika, booking orders for spring goods.
